Optical System Engineer
OHB Czechspace focuses on the development, design, verification, procurement, system engineering, assembly integration and testing and related product assurance tasks of spacecraft and launcher structures.
As an Optical System Engineer, you will be responsible for defining and evaluating the feasibility of both refractive systems (e.g., lens barrel assemblies) and reflective optical systems, such as telescopes (e.g., Cassegrain, and catadioptric systems). The work is primarily carried out for the European Space Agency, as well as for private customers.
Job description:
We are looking for someone with basic theoretical knowledge of Optics (e.g. parameters of the optical system, systems metrics, workflow of optical design, and its influences). Basic knowledge of scripting (Python) would be an asset.
The work carried out is mostly related to:
1. Definition of optical systems for earth observation and also astronomy, performance modeling for earth observation, orbital analysis and derivation of requirements for payloads, detector modeling, and calibration strategy.
2. Support proposal preparation activities and definition of internal ideas, presentation of work results to customers and also other colleagues, participating in the expansion of the company's know-how (knowledge sharing, mentoring, training).
We require:
- Master’s Degree in aerospace, mechanical, optical engineering or comparable education
- Considerable communication skills, high degree of flexibility and resilience
- Fluency in spoken and written English is a must, German is a plus
A plus would be:
- Experience with Ansys Zemax OpticStudio.
- Experience in Python programming for physics applications.
- Knowledge of physical image formation.
- Ability to conduct bibliographic research and share it with others.
- Knowledge of optical instrumentation (i.e. Hyperspectral, Multispectral, Spectrometers, etc.) in UV, Visible, and IR parts of spectra.
